" AIDS and the Gay and Lesbian Movement in South Africa

Featured film: "Simon and I"
"Simon and I" recounts the lives of two giants in the South African gay and lesbian liberation movement, Simon Nkoli and the filmmaker herself, Bev Ditsie.
Special guest speaker: Tim Costello of the slum doctor program
The slum doctor program is a non-profit organization dedicated to making basic health care, HIV treatment and HIV education accessible to the very poor in Kenya by establishing free health clinics and rural community pharmacies, and through the donation of needed medical supplies.

Free event organized as a Service Learning project by students from Women's Studies 211 class.

WHRTF HOLDS CANDLELIGHT VIGIL FOR INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS
December 12th - Thursday, 7 PM

WHRTF will hold an annual candle-light vigil in recognition of International Human Rights Day.
The agenda:
* a short quarterly business meeting,
* a presentation by Shirley Osterhaus about her recent time spent as a peace advocate in Israel/Palestine.
* The evening will conclude with an opportunity for everyone to name human rights activists from around the world.
International Human Rights Day was established by the United Nations on December 10th, 1948, in conjunction with the international declaration of Human Rights.
