PUBLIC FORUM with DANIEL LEVITAS , author of The Terrorist Next Door: The Militia Movement and the Radical Right
November 26, Tuesday - 7pm

LOCATION: Seattle (see below)
terrorist Next Door book cover ORDER NOWORDER the book [order NOW] through our online affiliate: Village Books in Bellingham

The public is invited to a public forum featuring Daniel Levitas, a national and international expert on organized white supremacy and radical right.

Levitas' new book The Terrorist Next Door: The Militia Movement and the Radical Right was recently nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and is a comprehensive overview on the very significant public policy gains won by the radical right and militia movement.

September 11, 2001 focused America's attention on the terrorist threat from abroad, but as the World Trade Center towers collapsed, domestic right wing hate groups were celebrating in the United States.
"Hallelu-Yahweh! May the WAR be started! DEATH to His enemies, may the World Trade Center BURN TO THE GROUND!" exulted August Kreis of the paramilitary group, the Posse Comitatus. "We can blame no others than ourselves for our problems due to the fact that we allow ...Satan's children, called jews today, to have dominion over our lives (sic)."
The Terrorist Next Door reveals the men behind far right groups like the Posse Comitatus - Latin for "power of the county" - and the ideas that inspired their attempts to bring about a racist revolution in the United States.

The Terrorist Next Door gives a clear assessment of the goals and strategies of white supremacist and radical right movements in the wake of 911 and how communities can and should respond.

------------------------------

Daniel LevitasCoretta Scott King offers praise for The Terrorist Next Door ----

"September 11th 2001 has heightened awareness of the threat posed by violent, anti-American groups in other nations. Lest we forget, the terrorist infrastructure that contributed to the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 is still a force in our society. Daniel Levitas has written a timely and compelling book that reveals the origins and poisonous ideology of radical right organizations and their leaders at work in America.

The Terrorist Next Door is an invaluable contribution to our understanding of hate groups, and it should be required reading for everyone who is concerned about this serious threat to our security and our democracy."

------------------------------

Mr. Levitas has written extensively about the activities of hate groups.
-He has been quoted by numerous media outlets, including: the New York Times, St. Louis Post Dispatch, the Chicago Tribune, the Wall Street Journal, ABC, CBS, CNN, public television and National Public Radio.
-He is a contributing author to Anti-Semitism in America Today (Birch Lane Press, 1995).
- From 1991 - 1992 he edited When Hate Groups Come to Town: A Handbook of Effective Community Responses, a 192-page handbook about constructive responses to hate group activity and bigoted violence.
-He is a contributing writer to Grolier's Multimedia Encyclopedia on the subjects of the history of American anti-Semitism; hate crimes and the U.S. militia movement.

The public author conversation will be hosted by Dave Ross of KIRO Newsradio and is sponsored by Tree of Life Judaica & Books.
