^^ What B.U.G. is! ^^

B.U.G. is a youth-led group committed to creating a positive sense of community for diverse young people in Whatcom County between the ages of 13-20. We foster a safe and supportive environment to discuss issues and learn from eachother. Our goal is to educate ourselves and people of all ages about human rights, celebrating diversity, and building ally networks.

B.U.G. is open to all youth who want to support human rights as well as learn about the world and help improve it collectively.

^^ Why B.U.G. is Important! ^^

We believe that nurturing an inclusive culture among youth is crucial to the health of our community. Too many hate crimes and acts of discrimination take place in schools or at youth events.
Without peer support, youth are particularly vulnerable to discrimination.
We believe that empowering youth directly affected by bigotry and educating all young people about diversity will make our community safer.
We believe all people should be treated with fairness, regardless of race, ethnicity, ability, class, political opinion, sexual orientation, gender, or religion.

^^ Goals! ^^

. Provide peer support for young people facing human rights issues
· Provide a voice for equality and fairness in the halls and on the streets
· Create allies of all ages through educational events and publications
· Provide leadership training for youth interested in human rights issues.

^^ How We’ll do it! ^^

· Ongoing youth discussion sessions and support groups.
· All-Ages presentations educating the community about issues faced by youth
· A youth publication providing an ongoing voice for equality
· Network with other local groups to widen awareness and support for equality
